Rain God Memoirs
Seasonal Sound Project

Here is the Echo Weekly article!!!!
http://www.echoweekly.com/8603-The+Nathan+Day+Project.htm (its the second article)

The new link up at the top is a direct response to the Echo Weekly interview I did the other day. I didnt realize it until the interview that there are quite a few posts (50ish) since Febuary. With that many post it makes it difficult for someone who is new to the project to figure out what the heck is going on at first glance when they come to the site.
.
Also in talking with them, they wanted a band (artist) photo…..which I have somewhat tried to stay away from, but figured it was now time to post. Anyways, the “About RGM” page is now ready!
.
Hopefully they will run an article based on the interview we had! here is the link to the magazine!

46162_423815355867_509790867_5358190_8024500_nAs I was pulling out the old pins for where the strings are held I found that many of the pins were broken. I was trying everything to get them out cause a piece of the pin was lodged down in the hole where the fasten the strings….little did I know that those pins poke out inside the base of the guitar. Once I found that out I was easily able to get all the pins out of the bridge.
.
I learn something new everyday! ha!
.
44715_423815080867_509790867_5358186_6137804_nThen I wasnt sure if the strings would cause the neck of the guitar to collapse due to the tension. As seen in the photo to the right…The strings held. But I was met with a different problem while tuning them. the twisty things (I could have looked up the name but I am too lazy right now) that tighten and loosen the strings were almost impossible to turn. I had to use two butter knives in order to turn them.
.
After a little bit I was looking at the side of the guitar and the distance from the strings to the fret board was insane near the base of the guitar. The distance was ok near the top of the guitar.
Telling me that it was pulling the neck towards the body.
45752_423814945867_509790867_5358184_1510355_nAs seen here for basic chords the guitar is ok. I havent left the guitar to see if it continues to bend the fret board. But will be checking that and measuing the gap in the next few days.
One Cool thing about the guitar is that by pushing on the base of the guitar it has a cool whammy effect. Using this effect I have already put together an idea for a new song played on this guitar.
.
I just have to make sure that I can get to recording it before the strings pull the guitar apart. Although, it might not be as bad as I think.
46153_423814735867_509790867_5358167_4824498_nHere is a picture near the base of the guitar….the strings are so far away it is almost unplayable down that far.
.
The guitar has a real `twang`to it and is nothing like my nice expensive acoustic guitar, but variety is the spice of life and I look forward to watching over the guitar and using it on an upcoming recording.
.
I`ll try and record a sample of what it sounds like and post it on the site. I still havent fixed the rotting bottom but it still sounds pretty cool so I might try that after I record a song or two to see if I can get a different sound from it in the future!

I never really thought about what would happen if I lost the website until just the other day! I guess I would just have to write about how i lost it and continue the memoirs from that point on!
.
I was trying to figure out a way to stop the spambots from trying to leave comments and I deleted something called PHP and MySQL which apparently is important. Luckily my host provider: Westhost is awesome and backup up everything and set me back up as if I never screwed things up! The only think I lost was my update on the Rain Guitar PART 2.
.
Which I will work on again and repost very soon!

cleasing phase 1

cleasing phase 1

The Rain Guitar was very very very dirty! This picture here is after the first cleaning. I used an old rag and after going over the entire guitar the rag was completely brown. And it seemed like more could be cleaned off the thing.
.
Those marks on the top of the base of the guitar are perminant water damage marks. The neck has some water stains on the one side as well. and I’m going to have to put a bit of wood glue under the fret board where it is coming away from the base of the guitar.
.

cleaning part 2

cleaning part 2

The second phase of cleaning I used a Magic wipe. It took quite a bit more dirt off the guitar but the same thing happened at the end of the cleaning the magic wipe was covered in dirt and the guitar could still be cleaned! some of the water marks came off with the magic wipe though. So I finished the job off with some papertowels.
.
The picture to the right is how it looked cleaned off. The fret board was absolutely disgusting too. not to mention all the crap the somebody shoved in the base of the guitar the I had to remove.
.
One Major problem is the base of the guitar! The wood has been completely rotted out and what is remaining is so flimsey that I can push it back or pull it forward and put my entire hand in the bottom of the guitar. I’m not sure yet how I’m going to fix this problem. Perhaps I’ll see if I can double it up with some new wood.

Next Step will be to see if the neck and base are strong enough to hold the tension of strings

Rain Guitar

Rain Guitar

I went out for a drive this past Rainy Sunday afternoon in UpTown Waterloo. As I was driving I noticed this guitar off on the side of the road getting soaked in the rain. It was calling out to me that it still had a bunch of songs in it left to create. I pulled the car over and adopted the guitar.
.
This is a picture of the guitar in my garage. it is very dirty and very waterlogged. I’m hoping that I can salvage this guitar and make it playable. I have named this guitar the Rain Guitar and it would be very cool to write/record a few Rain God Memoirs on this guitar.
.
I dont know much about guitar restoration but I will begin by trying to clean it up. I will continue to post about how the Rain Guitar is doing here in addition to how progress on new material is going.

Hopefully this is a quick post on “The competition” shows….
I have been involved in a bunch of “battle of the band” shows and each one seems to be fixed to make the winner the band that brings the most people to the venue. We were involved in shows associated with the website “supernova” in Hamilton. Wicked bands performed! I was hoping to win the competition (this being my first battle of the bands) and the awards went to a crappy highschool band (not that all highschool bands are crappy…but this one was) BUT they brought with them a bus load of people. And it make sense….in order to give away $1000 they have to make at least that and why not give it to the band that gave them the $1000.
.
Another Example that I was just reading….Paragon online. The winner boasted “we brought two bus loads of people to the event, rocked it and took home first prize” I dont want to mention the band name…but in their discription it tells why they won…..and it wasnt because “they rocked it”
.
The Toronto Emergenza is my final comment and proof on my theory. We brought a large amount of people with us to the first emergenza show. We won that show and moved on to the next round. We were thrilled thinking that we must have played the most amazing set ever! Then it came to the next show. We saw the guys laptop and our ticket sales were just a few behind being in second. So we decided to buy tickets so that we sold the second most. It just so happened that we moved on with the band that sold the most tickets. At the Toronto Finals, we couldnt compete against the top bands ticket sales and what do you know….we didnt win!
.
Not so say that ticket sales arent important. At some point that has to be an indication of how good a band is….whether or not anyone wants to see them. As well in order for people to run these events they need to make money somehow. The thing that I always tried to push was base it on bar sales! We would have won everytime! ha!

Crowd View @ RGM show

Crowd View @ RGM show

This past Sunday I performed at Maxwell’s Music hall. It was a Local Singer Songwritter show where each performer could showcase 3 origional songs. The show went over great and a bunch of wonderful people grabbed a free CD.
.
I might even get a few colaborations out of this performance. The venue was great…the sound guy awesome. The premise behind the show was ok….(I’ll bottle that up for another post)
.
In the end I performed to a bunch of people who wouldn’t normally come out to a guy with long flowing blond locks rock show and it went over great.
.
My picture guy forgot to take pictures because he was so engrossed with the performance, I took these crowd shots after I finished my set and I have one backstage photo with some fans who enjoyed the performance.

The 3 Songs I played were:
1) Thanks for all the Fish
2) When I
3) The Story of the bad man
.
I was going to play “No”, but then decided on stage to switch it up. Can you believe hardly anyone knew who Billy Corgan was? What was more shocking was that people had never heard of me either! Anyways, that all changed on this night…..
.
The third song I played is unrecorded thus far and that is just the working title of the song. It is a very interesting song that I’m not exactly sure what I’m going to do with it because I dont want to get sued.
.
Anyhow, It was a fun night and now I can get back to writting and recording.

Billy Corgan just recently performed his new song “My Love is Winter” live in one of his sets in Japan.
.
The song is speculated to be about none other than the Rain God Memoirs! Billy Corgan has never hid the fact that he loves experimental music. (just look at his solo project) and now after our colaboration on the song “No” that is available to download now….he wrote a song about the Rain God Memoirs Winter songs project. The Rain God Memoirs Winter songs will all be songs that have an experimental side to them.

There was a local singer songwritter competition that asked the songwritter to submit a few songs and their website. I sent a couple MP3’s and my site….thinking that they were going to judge the competition on the MP3’s. It turns out that this was just the screening process for them to select people to perform the songs live! I gladly accepted and then was told that it can only be the songwritter and his instrument on stage! So, not only had I not thought about performing live with this project and havent played at a bar in at least 2 years….now I have to perform on the stage solo…something I have never done! It is just short sets of 3-4 songs so it shouldnt bee too much of an issue, but it is still very exciting and nerve racking!
.
Performance selection times are the day of….so I cant give you any idea yet what time I am playing but I will be updating my twitter: “mobile updates” and facebook for those of you who I am friends with about what time I will be performing. More details about the show are:
.
Its a Maxwells Music Hall
Waterloo, ON (right behind Phil’s bar accross from Laurier University)
Sunday August 15th.
Doors open at 7 (but I will post my time via twitter and facebook)
I believe there is a door charge (not sure the price but probably in the range of 5-10 bucks)
All-ages event…so bring your babies!
